The company Modagri has been producing ornamental external plants for the past 40 years, thanks to the mild climate of Northern Greece and the loving care of its founder Aristeides Triantafyllou. Located in a beautiful green valley close to Thessaloniki, it ships decorative plants to Greece, Cyprus and the wide Western Balkans region.
Growing over 30 different species of young plants on benches, they needed to improve their rooting and vegetative system, before translating them in the open field where they grow to the desired size. In the words of Katerina Triantafyllou, the operations manager:
“We were searching for LED lights with the exact spectrum for this task. Ambralight proved to be the right company, combining deep technical knowledge with the flexibility to adapt their lamps to our requests.”
At Ambralight we chose for this project our AE32 lamps with individual Osram LEDs, with the exact ratio of 2 different red frequencies – essential for a strong rooting system – and blue light – necessary to prepare the young plants to the inevitable shock when they are transferred to the ground outside of the greenhouse.
We spoke to the agronomist Apostolos Findanis who is following this project:
“There are three main goals: we want our young plants to develop a rooting system more quickly; a more developed rooting system compared to the previous conditions; a higher percentage of success when transplanting them in the open field. We use LED lights early in the morning and in the evening when sunlight is not enough, to offer our plants a standard 15 hours of daylight.”
And what about the results after just a couple of months in spring 2022 using Ambralight AE32 LED lights?
“For example, we are observing that rosemary plants develop strong roots 10 days earlier than before”
